ROCK ISLAND'S PREMIERE 3-DAY SALE: AUGUST 23rd

Rock Island’s August Premiere Sale running 23rd to the 25th includes some of the finest firearms that have come to market this year in the western, sporting, military and antique categories. The sale includes over 1700 hundred lots. Carrying the highest estimate ($275,000-425,000) is the documented “Invictus” Singer 1911 pistol carried by B-24 pilot, Lt Col Thomas Moss of the 765th Bombardment Squadron. This historic Singer is a “Holy Grail” for collectors.

Among the other standouts inthe sale are a gold and silver ornamented wheellock carbine from the cabinet d’armes of Louis XIII, King of France, a Buffalo Bill presented Winchester lever action model 1895, an attic-find mint condition Winchester model 1886, a USN Colt Gatling Gun, a Keith Thompson Engraved P.V. Nelson .410 OU shotgun and a rare US Johnson NFA transferable LMG.

Estimates among the 1700 lots range from $425,000 right down to $1,000 so there are many affordable guns for new collectors in this Premiere sale. Click on the image for a link to the catalog.
 



Centurion Auction: two day sale, July 28, 30th

Centurion Auctions 2-day sale July 28th and 30th includes an interesting collection of flare guns, signal devices, naval line throwing guns and cannon ignition devices among many other sporting and collectible lots. Carrying the highest estimate among this group are two examples of the rare German WWI 4 CHRF barrel flare pistol pictured ($7500-9000). Arms like this would have propelled the ubiquitous illumination above the trenches at night among other signaling roles.
 
Other lots in this groups include a German 1903 dated AWW navy flare pistol, a WWI German navy AWW Einlaufige flare pistol, A German Navy HG Cordes line throwing gun, a US Navy 1882 Very’s flare pistol, a US navy 1861 Flare pistol and an unusual French T 1822 Conversion signal pistol. Among the earliest in this group is a rare British 1812 Naval flintlock Congreve device, used to signal, set fire to enemy ships and repel boarders. Click on the image for a link to the sale.
