SOTHEBY'S AMERICANA INCLUDING FINE EARLY LONGRIFLES

Sotheby’s Americana sale of the 22nd includes American long rifles from the William K di Pont collection. Pictured is an exceptional Lehigh Valley rifle C 1810 attributed to John Rupp or Jacob Kuntz that carries an estimate of 40,000-60,000 USD. Other guns in the sale include an example by Martin Fry of York PA C 1790, another attributed to peter and David Moll and a fine early example C 1780 by John Philip beck of Lancaster county PA.

Also offered are a pair of percussion pistols by Kuntz Philadelphia and two fine tomahawks, one belonging to John Fraser, Lancaster county dated 1758. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



ANTIKVITY PRAHA, ARMS & ANTIQUES AUCTION DEC 11th

Antikvity Praha’s sale of arms and antiques includes a choice selection of early guns, swords and armour. Pictured is a fine early flintlock Viennese pistol by Joseph Hamerl C. 1730, gunmaker to the Bavarian and Lorraine courts. Other guns offered include a beautiful percussion combination shotgun rifle by Kuchenreuter, a 17th C. German wheellock rifle with trigger safety, a cased pair of French percussion pistols by Pirmet, a mid 19th C. Bohemian target rifle by Schab and an extensively chiseled and silver inlaid 18th C. Italian fowler.

Among the edged weapons are several smallswords including an Iron hilted example inlaid with silver, several Hungarian magnate sabres, A Swiss or German 17th C. officers dog head sabre, a Styrian broadsword C 1600 and a M1799 dragoon pallasch.  Also offered are several early war hammers. a very rare and unusual Henry Ball patent concealed anti-garrotter gun and an attractive etched cabasset in the 16th C Style. ROCK ISLAND PREMIERE FIREARMS AUCTION: 3 DAY SALE: DEC 3rd 4th & 5th

Rock island premier sale in December cover three days and includes world class collector firearms, sword and related militaria. Pictured is an historic garniture of five guns and sword presented to Napoleon Bonaparte in 1797. From the Versailles manufactory this highly embellished and gold inlaid set was first put on display in London in 1816 following the defeat at Waterloo. Other museum quality arms in the sale include a Colt no 5 Squareback model Texas Paterson revolver  and a Marlin model 1881 rifle, serial No 1.  Besides the many museum quality arms in the sale more modestly estimated guns include a French mod 1717 infantry musket, one of several guns from the Moller collection a Rare Russian contract model 1911.

Over 2200 lots will cross the block in the three day sale and the catalog includes guns and related militaria guaranteed to suit a wide range of collector interests in all price ranges.
 



SOFE DESIGN, ANTIQUE ARMS & ARMOUR: NOV 13th

Sofe Design Auction sale of the 13th includes a sword bearing the name of Tipu Sultan, the Sultan of Mysore killed but eh British at the siege of Seringapatam in 1799. There are many other fine Indian, Persian and Ottoman swords int he sale including a superb Persian shamshir with gilt niello scabbard with an the Ottoman Pala style blade and a Qajar Kanjhar dagger with enamel and gold mounts dated 1815.

Among the guns in the sale are several Ottoman toufek rifles, an Ottoman Greek pistol with brass stock, a fine 18th C Turkish blunderbuss, a Spanish percussion rifle with Catalan style stock and a heavily mislaid German wheellock hunting rifle. The sale also includes a huge English bowie from the American market by Jackson Sheffield, an unusual medieval scolds’ bridle and a rare 19th C me Mexican military General’s Sombrero. PROBUS AUKTION: ANTIQUE ARMS, ARMOUR, DECORATIONS AND MEDALS. NOV 15th

Probus Auktioneers are holding their Fall sale on Nov 15th. The sale includes a wide selection of European guns and swords as well as a variety of worldwide arms from a range of historical periods.  Among the edged weapons in the sale is the spectacular Napoleon III presentation sword pictured.  Other swords in the sale include early medieval examples as well as 17th C. rapiers and officers’ swords.  Many 18th and 19th Swedish and European military swords will cross the block, as will an important Russian naval Example.

Guns in the sale include several early 18th C.  Swedish flintlock pistols, matched pairs among them, in addition to wheellock rifles and pistols.  Longarms offered include both rare military and highly decorative civilian examples. Several desirable American lots are offered, a first model Colt Dragoon revolver, a London Colt Pocket revolver and a Volcanic pistol being just three examples. CZERNYS: FINE ANTIQUE ARMS, ARMOUR, ORDERS & MILITARIA, NOV 12th

Czerny’s Sale of Nov 12th includes this iconic German late 15th C. salet from the Kuppelmayr collection. This sale includes a good selection or armour with the highest estimate attached to a Pisan style armour, by tradition that of the Duke of Ferrara, purchased in 1836 by the 6th viscount Powerscourt. A finely made field armour for a boy in the German style C 1800 is also offered as well as Maximillian style armour and several half-armours.
A lavish 17th C German wheellock with gold and enamel decoration nameD to an artillery colonel who was also an important Saxon architect will cross the block. There are several other outstanding wheellocks offered including tschinke, puffer pistols and a carbine.  Many are highly engraved, inlaid and superb decorative pieces as well as important historical artifacts.
Among the edged weapons in an outstanding and rare gold mounted French Renaissance dagger C 1570, a jade hilted kandshar inlaid with precious stone and gold, a 15th C hand and a half German sword and a fine Caucasian shasqua with silver hilt. MILESTONE PREMIERE AUCTION: 0CTOBER 23RD

Milestone’s premiere auction includes many unusual and rare items among the 611 offered. The sale is being held Oct 23rd and among the more desirable lots offered is a model 1860 Henry rifle. Also in the sale is a Colt 1905 45 automatic pistol, pictured, and several scarce 1911’s including a Remington UMC 1911 and a 1917 dated Colt 1911 NRA pistol, one of less than 200 examples.

Among the other guns in the sale are a presentation Volcanic pistol, a US model 1817 Springfield martial pistol and an experimental Winchester model 70 rifle in  243 Winchester serial #1. Click on the image for a link to the sale.
 



LANDSHUTER RÜSTKAMMER: FINE ARMS & ARMOUR SEPT 17th-18th

Landshuter Rüstkammer will be offering 1400 lots of antique arms and armor, orders and decorations on September 17th/ & 18th. The sale includes early pistols such as the highly decorated  Nuremberg wheellock puffer C1580 pictured, and a pair of cased flintlock dueling pistols by Thomas Mortimer.
A highlight of the armour offered is a closed helmet in Maximilian form C. 1515 that has a starting bid of 12,000 euros. The sale also includes suits of armour, numerous other helmets, shields and elements of armour.

High quality oriental and Asian daggers from a private collection as well as firangi, kilic, tulwar, & shamshir are also offered in the sale. A fine Kard with scabbard and gold inlaid inscription is among the daggers crossing the block. In the second part of the sale there is a large range of German, Austrian and international medals, decorations and militaria 1750-1945, among them a Grand Cross for Princes Saxony and a Prussian generals helmet C 1900. ROCK ISLAND PREMIERE AUCTION, SEPT 10th-12th

Rock Island’s premiere three day sale starting September 10th  includes many superb lots with A “One of One Hundred” Winchester 1876 leading the sale with an estimate of $250,00-$275,000. Other highly estimated guns include a pair of Gustave Young engraved Colt Single Action Armys and a pair of Gastinne-Renette Crystal Palace Exhibition dueling pistols. Another rare and highly unusual lot is the walrus ivory stocked Ottoman miquelet musket pictured. This is one a group of guns, one of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, thought to have been used by the bodyguard of Ottoman emperor Al Ahmid I.  Sotheby’s sold a similar  gun in 2015 for 77,500 GBP. Also in the sale is a Colt US Navy Gatling gun, A Rigby Sidelock rifle in .577 N.E. and a cased Colt Patterson N0 # 3

Among the edged weapons in the sale is an NBTHK “Especially Precious” ranked Diasho set, several civil war and Napoleonic presentation swords and pinfire combination sword revolver. The sale has a wide range  fine martial and civilian longarms and pistols from the US and around the world as well as daggers, elements of armour and accoutrements. SOFE DESIGN, ARMS & ARMOUR, AUG 28th

Sofe Designs sale of August 28th is comprised of a wide range of collectible antique arms and amour from all over the world.  One of the leading lots is a pair of Chercheska uniforms pictured. They are accompanied by  nielloed belts, fine kinjals, gaziri cartridge holders and a child’s shaska.  Among the edged weapons offered in the sale are many fine examples of Japanese  swords including a Daisho set, several fine shamshirs, fine kinjals, English swords from the US revolutionary period, a highly unusual early European rapier and a bolo sword bearing a presentation inscription to Edward VIII.

Guns in the sale include a massive French percussion breechloading rampart gun, a Colt baby dragoon, an English blunderbuss with spring bayonet by Archer, and a pair of middle eastern howdah pistols with silver decoration.
