MILESTONE AUCTIONS: PREMIERE COLLECTIBLE FIREARMS: MARCH 11th

Milestone Auction house in Ohio is holding a two-day sale on March 11th and 12th.  The sale includes many fine cased pistols including this fabulous pair of Brevette Colt Navy revolvers. Others include a cased pair of Colt Navy 1851 squareguard revolvers, a cased pair of engraved and gold pated Adams revolvers, a cased pair of Delvigne percussion Mouse pistols an engraved New Haven Volcanic No2 pistol, a desirable Pre-war Polish Radom eagle pistol and several Mauser Broom handles with shoulder stocks.

Long guns in the sale include a fine Germanic Wheelock, a Winchester 1866 saddlering carbine. A rare Éclair automatic shotgun, a high condition large frame Bullard rifle and a museum quality British Sharps carbine. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



ROCK ISLAND AUCTION: SPORTING & COLLECTOR FIREARMS, FEB 14th-17th

A pair of cased and engraved Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 single action revolvers shipped to Cuba are among the lots that will catch collectors’ attention in Rock Island’s sale running from Feb 14th to 17th. The lot include a factory letter indicating they were shipped on September 22nd, 1880, to Don Jose Valero of Cuba. Among other lots carrying higher estimates in the sale are several fine lever actions including Volcanic, Henry and early Winchester examples.
 
Also included in the sale are early military arms such as the rare Mauser G41, a scoped WWII K98 Sniper rifle, a Sharps 1863 percussion rifle, and a US model 97 Winchester trench gun. Fine sporting lots offered include a Parker Bros, VHE 28 gauge and a Gustav Genschow boxlock double rifle in 375 express. SCOLLARD AUCTIONS: MILITARIA & ANTIQUES, Feb 21st

Scollard Auctions are holding a sale of arms, armour and antiques on Feb 21st.  The sale includes the North Indian, probably Kutch, shamshir with flamboyant blade pictured in addition to a pulwar sword with similar blade, several lots of antique armour, edged weapons and a European war hammer in the 16th C style.  Included in the armour lots is an attractive etched reproduction 16th breastplate and tassets.  Among the edged weapons are a British 1803 flank officers sword, a European mameluke sabre and scabbard, and a US model 1862 naval cutlas with scabbard.

HERMANN HISTORICA, ARMS AMOUR, ANTIQUE GUNS, ORDERS AND MILITARY COLLECTIBLES: Jan 30th

Hermann Historica are holding a series of sales starting Jan 30th and the catalogs include Antiquities, Arms and Armour, Antique and Modern Arms. as well as Orders and Military Collectibles. Five catalogs will run though Feb 2nd. Among the fine arms to cross the block is the superb pair of pictures German pistols by Breidl, C1780. Other fine guns include a gold inliad pair by Prevoteau Le Juene, Paris C 1780, and a silver mounted double barreled flintlock pistol by W. Paris in Derby C 1795. Vintage and modern guns offered include a Mannlicher model 1905 and a Swiss sig Mod 210-4 BGS.

The highlights of the Antique arms and Armour catalog includes edged weapons such as the Ottoman silver mounted wootz damascus Shamshir dated 1619 and a 17th C  Styrian/Hungarian hussar saber with scabbard. A Saudi Wootz example is also offered.  A 16/17th C pikeman’s suit of Amour will be sold as will a Polish Zischagge C 1650.

CZERNYS ITALY, ARMS FROM THE MLAY ARCHIPELAGO AND FINE ARMS AND ARMOUR: Dec 16th-17th

Czerny’s Auction house in Italy is holding two sales on Dec 15th and 16th. The first sale, Fine Antique Arms from the Malay Archipelago includes many examples of highly decorative and rare Asian and SE Asian arms.  Silver mounted Kastane swords from Ceylon are among those with higher estimates in the sale, as are Sumatran and Balinese Kris’s. Among the many rare forms of edged weapons throughout the catalogue are Sumtran Piso-podangs, a Pade sword from the Maluku islands, a scarce Naga sword from Assam and a Balato from Nias. Klewangs, Daos, Dhas, and Mandau’s are among the other exotic forms offered.

The second catalogue of Fine Arms and Armour includes many fine early firearms such as the late 17th C. Teschen flintlock rifle pictured. Also in this sale is a fabulous pair of Brescian pistols by Galatto C1670, a fine French double flintlock fowler by Simon C 1770 and a presentation Target rifle by Rochat Turin, gifted by King Emaneul II in 1862. This catalogue also includes some fine Japanese lots such as the Tashi with Cloisonne decorated Koshirae, an attractive Kabuto helmet with Menpo and a rare Tano signed Kuni-Mitsu. ROCK ISLAND'S PREMIERE FIREARMS SALE: Dec 9th-11TH

Rock island’s Premiere Firearms sale takes place over the days starting Dec 9th.  It is filled with spectacular offerings with many lots having important historical associations. On the first day Theodore Roosevelts’ Engraved Smith and Wesson No 3 is being offered.  It is accompanied by a factory letter confirming shipment to Colonel Roosevelt on May 12 1898.

Lots sold on day two include A smith and Wesson Scholfield with a Jesse James association, as well as a Colt Navy 1851 prototype serial No 1. Among the lots on the third day are a Winchester Model 1895 presented by Wild West Showman Buffalo Bill to Fred Kavanaugh and  a Smith and Wesson Wells Fargo Scholfiled revolver Serial No 1.

There are 2088 lots in total to be sold over the three days in a wide range estimate. The sale includes European and American Military and civilian arms as well as many rare, fine and 



SWISS AUCTION CENTER: ARMS & ANTIQUES: Dec 17th

Scollard & Sons Auction are having a second sale of arms, armour and antiques on Dec 4th.  The sale includes the Italian mid-18th C silver mounted pistols with chiseled steel barrels pictured in addition to several lots of antique armour, edged weapons and a good brass barreled signal canon on brass mounted carriage. Included in the armour lots are attractive reproductions of a 16th close helms and a bellows type salet. Among the edged weapons are an Italian cinquadea dagger in the 16th C style, a US 1862 dated naval cutlass and scabbard and a a Victorian swept hilt rapier with chiseled steel hilt.

Other lots include an Austrian dragoon helmet, An unusual armored and enameled codpiece, a good pair of Indian Dastana arm guards and a selection of polearms. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



ANTIKVITY PRAHA, ANTIQUE ARMS AND APPLIED ARTS: Dec 3rd

Antikvity Praha’s sale of Dec 3rd includes many fine edged weapons and early guns. Carrying the highest estimate (10,000-15,000 euro) is a museum quality Ottoman sabre inscribed with the owner’s name, Al-Hajj Ibrahim. The types of swords were made as presentations arms and diplomatic gifts. Also offered is a Russian presentation sabre in niello silver mounts hallmarked for 1897.  A third impressive sword in the sale is an Austrian pallasch C 1763 for a Chevauleger officer. The sale includes a range of other edged weapons, a silver mounted yataghan among them, as well as several hunting swords.

A desirable American gun to be sold is the rare first model Porter percussion turret rifle made in New York. A Winchester model 1876 in . 45-60 is also offered. Other American guns include a Merwin and Hulbert .44 revolver and a Springfield armory 1873 trapdoor saddle ring carbine.  Early European guns in the catalog include a flintlock pistol by joseph Hammerl in Vienna C. 1730 and a cased pare of double barreled pistols by Antione Dumarest C1820. European revolvers include scarce models by Picault-Cordier, Perrin and Le Page Moutier. Several cased pairs of pistols are included in the catalog as well as a takedown rifle with a  “poachers pistol”

Other lots in the sale include a rare vampire killing kit, an early burgonet, a yari spear, a book with secreted 10mm pistol and two attractive painted shooting targets. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



PROBUS AUKTION STOCKHOLM: FINE ANTIQUE ARMS & MILITARIA: Nov 14th

Probus Auction, based in Stockholm, are holding a sale of arms armour and militaria on Nov 14th.  The sale includes a wide range of lot reflecting diverse historical and cultural contexts. Among the early Swedish swords offered is the fine chiseled example with a characteristically Scandinavian hilt pictured. Other edged weapons include a fine Papenheim hilted rapier, and important Swedish cavalry generals sword C. 1710 carried by Alexander Magnus Hummerhielm, Russian Shaskas, several Kindjals, a fine Tulwar, Piha-Ketta, parangs and Japanese swords.

Among the guns in the sale is a selection on US percussion revolvers and a Volcanic pistol. Alos offered is a rare Cochran Turret revolver. Early  European guns include a wheellock dated 1598, several early and fine pairs of flintlock pistols a chiseled Austrian brace among them. The highest estimate (75,000 SEK) is carried by a pair of well published Swedish pistols by Utterberg, C 1730.
