Scollard & Sons Auction are having a second sale of arms, armour and antiques on Dec 4th.  The sale includes the Italian mid-18th C silver mounted pistols with chiseled steel barrels pictured in addition to several lots of antique armour, edged weapons and a good brass barreled signal canon on brass mounted carriage. Included in the armour lots are attractive reproductions of a 16th close helms and a bellows type salet. Among the edged weapons are an Italian cinquadea dagger in the 16th C style, a US 1862 dated naval cutlass and scabbard and a a Victorian swept hilt rapier with chiseled steel hilt.

Other lots include an Austrian dragoon helmet, An unusual armored and enameled codpiece, a good pair of Indian Dastana arm guards and a selection of polearms. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



ANTIKVITY PRAHA, ANTIQUE ARMS AND APPLIED ARTS: Dec 3rd

Antikvity Praha’s sale of Dec 3rd includes many fine edged weapons and early guns. Carrying the highest estimate (10,000-15,000 euro) is a museum quality Ottoman sabre inscribed with the owner’s name, Al-Hajj Ibrahim. The types of swords were made as presentations arms and diplomatic gifts. Also offered is a Russian presentation sabre in niello silver mounts hallmarked for 1897.  A third impressive sword in the sale is an Austrian pallasch C 1763 for a Chevauleger officer. The sale includes a range of other edged weapons, a silver mounted yataghan among them, as well as several hunting swords.

A desirable American gun to be sold is the rare first model Porter percussion turret rifle made in New York. A Winchester model 1876 in . 45-60 is also offered. Other American guns include a Merwin and Hulbert .44 revolver and a Springfield armory 1873 trapdoor saddle ring carbine.  Early European guns in the catalog include a flintlock pistol by joseph Hammerl in Vienna C. 1730 and a cased pare of double barreled pistols by Antione Dumarest C1820. European revolvers include scarce models by Picault-Cordier, Perrin and Le Page Moutier. Several cased pairs of pistols are included in the catalog as well as a takedown rifle with a  “poachers pistol”

Other lots in the sale include a rare vampire killing kit, an early burgonet, a yari spear, a book with secreted 10mm pistol and two attractive painted shooting targets. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



PROBUS AUKTION STOCKHOLM: FINE ANTIQUE ARMS & MILITARIA: Nov 14th

Probus Auction, based in Stockholm, are holding a sale of arms armour and militaria on Nov 14th.  The sale includes a wide range of lot reflecting diverse historical and cultural contexts. Among the early Swedish swords offered is the fine chiseled example with a characteristically Scandinavian hilt pictured. Other edged weapons include a fine Papenheim hilted rapier, and important Swedish cavalry generals sword C. 1710 carried by Alexander Magnus Hummerhielm, Russian Shaskas, several Kindjals, a fine Tulwar, Piha-Ketta, parangs and Japanese swords.

Among the guns in the sale is a selection on US percussion revolvers and a Volcanic pistol. Alos offered is a rare Cochran Turret revolver. Early  European guns include a wheellock dated 1598, several early and fine pairs of flintlock pistols a chiseled Austrian brace among them. The highest estimate (75,000 SEK) is carried by a pair of well published Swedish pistols by Utterberg, C 1730. The sale also includes a good Saxon cartidge box C. 1580, a  rare French 17th C powder flaks as well as orders decorations and uniforms. Click on the image for a link to the catalog.



CHRIS WYNN EARLY PURDEY COLLECTION: Bonhams, Nov 9th

Bonham’s November 9th sale of Purdey arms is a reminder that while the Purdey name is synonymous with the finest sporting shotguns, they also made a wide range of other fine arms during the course of the last two centuries. 

 

Carrying the highest estimate (10,000-15,000 stg) is a cased pair of percussion dueling pistols made in 1826. Other pistols offered include a cased pair of rifled target pistols made in 1827 and a fine cased double barreled traveling pistol made in 1825. A wide range of single and double barreled percussion sporting rifles are included in the sale as well as rarer pinfire examples. Also among the rifles is a Chillingham Officers percussion rifled musket, an unusual Purdey military gun.

SCOLLARD & SON: ARMS ARMOUR & ANTIQUES:, Oct 23rd

Scollard & Sons Auction, a newer California auction house, will be having a small sale of arms armour and antiques on Oct 23rd.  The sale includes many lots of antique armour including a composite suit of 17th C European armour, a suit of armour in the high gothic style and several miniature armours as well as and Edo period Japanese mail and a mempo face mask. Pictured is an attractive copy of the helmet made for James II by Richard Holden.
 
Edged weapons in the sale include a Spanish or Italian ring Hilted rapier, a good Spanish cup hilt rapier with makers name, a good Swedish officers sword and a pair of Spanish artillery swords.

Among the guns area pair of cannon barrel flintlock pistols, probably French,  Spanish “Patilla” style flintlock and percussion pistols and a finely chiseled European flintlock pistol as well as an east India Co. percussion pistol. Click on the image for a link to the sale.



SPORTING & COLLECTOR FIREARMS: ROCK ISLAND AUCTION Oct 4-7th

Rock island’s October Sporting & Collector sale over four days is highlighted by a civil war era Henry rifle. Among other classic collector lots offered are a New Haven “Volcanic” lever action, a Colt Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon revolver, a New York engraved Winchester Model 1866 and a Nimschske style engraved Winchester model 66. Early European guns include huge 20 shot remote/trap revolver, a cased pair of Durs Egg Flintlock offices pistols, a Kuchenreiter wheellock sporting rifle and a rare snaplock Baltic sporting rifle.

Among the 19/20th C.  collectible military and sporting guns over the four days are a 3-digit serial Borchardt pistol, a Wise Lite PKM, an Ithaca Auto Burglar, a Turnbull finished High-Power and a Kolouch engraved Browning superposed Shotgun. LANDSHUTER RÜSTKAMMER: ANTIQUE ARMS, ORDERS & MILITARIA Sept 23rd, 24th

Landshuter Rüstkammer will be offering 1230 lots of antique arms and armor, orders and decorations on September 23rd  & 24th. A German close helmet in Maximilian form C. 1520 that has a starting bid of 9. 500 euros is offered as is a Prussian Garde Du Corps M 1867/89 helmet. A highlight of the early edged weapons offered, which range from 950 to 1650, is the Fine Italian rapier C. 1630. Among the Eastern swords for sale is  A fine 18th C. gold inlaid Kilij with scabbard.

One of the rarer and more decorative lots offered is an original and very rare Pavese circa 1470 from Winterhur in Switzerland, starting price 15,000 euros. Click on the image for a link to the full catalogue.



ROCK ISLAND PREMIERE AUCTION: August 27-29th

Rock island’s Premiere sale of August 28th includes some unusual and rare lots, among them the only known original example of the iconic Han Solo Dl 44 Heavy Blaster from the first Star Wars movie. Other rarely seen lots include the 1592 dated wheellock hand grenade/mortar launcher, a Lazari Cominaz over/under wheellock pistol and a Nock seven shot pepperbox pistol.

Classic and historical American Guns in the sale include Wild Bill Hickocks S&W No2 old Army with documentation, a golden age Armstrong signed American flintlock long rifle, over 200 Winchesters including a special order ½ nickel plated “One of One Thousand” Winchester model 1873, an exceptional pair of Colt model 1855 revolvers in rosewood case, a well-documented smoothbore colt first generation six shooter, the finest example known. One of the stars of the sale is a Gustave young Factory engraved Model 1855 “root” to James McClatchie, Samuel Colt’s timekeeper. The sale will be held over 3 days. Holt Auctioneers, Fine Modern & Antique Arms: July 11th-12th

The top lots of Holt’s 2-day sale starting 11th   is a pair of Holland & Holland over and under 20 Royal Deluxe shotguns. The pair had hand detachable sidelocks and carries and estimate of 80,000-120,000 stg. Among the other pairs are a Boss & Co 12 bore “Easy Opening” sidelock ejectors C 1970, A Holland & Holland pair of single-trigger 12 ga Badminton sidelock ejectors, a Kell engraved pair of 12 ga Watson Bros sidelocks and a 50’s era pair of Churchill premiere finest quality sidelock ejectors. There are many other fine singles in the sale with a Boss 20 bore over and under single rigger sidelock ejector leading that group.

Among the Antique guns offered are a pair of cased Mortimer saw-handled dueling pistols, pair of Wogdon and Barton dueling pistols, a cased pair of over and under pistols by Allport Cork an 1905 baker rifle marked to the 1st battalion of the 95th rifle regiment and a rare 5 bore flintlock rampart gun for the East India Company. CZERNYS FINE ARMS & ARMOUR: JUNE 10th SARZANA, ITALY

Among the fine antique guns offered by Czerny’s Auctioneers in their sale of June 10th are an important pair of late 18th C cased French pistols by Boutet. Other fine early pistols include pair of flintlock dueling pistols by Joseph Manton London, C 1810, a very attractive pair of flintlock pistols, made for the eastern market by LaMotte St Etienne and an exceptional pair of silver gilt Ottoman  pistols. Long guns include a rare 16th C breechloading wheellock carbine, an Italian 17th C two primer wheelock gun and a rare Italian revolving rifle by Rocco De Luca dated 1867.
 
Other lots in the sale include a very rare 16th C complete Ottoman horse armour, a 17th C scimitar blade with inscription associating the sword with the 17th C Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb, a complete Moro armour with helmet, a German military 16th C rapier, on of many swords in the sale, two Dutch 17th C cannon on carriages, tow Spanish mortars C 1700, an English pikeman’s armour and a rare silver mounted Caucasian Shasqua.
